MScMA UGent 2016 Company Projects
MScMA UGent 2016 Company Projects
The Master of Science in Marketing Analysis had six projects this year for five different companies in the domain of marketing analytics. In general, each project involves a UGent student team working on a real-life company problem for three months with specific deliverables. An overview of this year’s and past projects can be found here. All were challenging projects for real companies paying a substantial fee (15 000 EUR + VAT per analytics project for a team of two students). We cannot disclose specifics about the projects, but some projects managed to save hundreds of thousands of euros. This year, we used a new procedure for the master dissertations. First, we had an internal defense with specific emphasis on the technical/methodological/scientific aspects of the company project (as well as an internal trial run for the managerial presentation). Second, the company presentation was held at their premises. Below, you find a list of the project (in alphabetical order of the company names):
ENGIE (formerly known as GDF-Suez - Electrabel in Belgium). The project is about geospatial marketing. They analyze the market potential in Europe for a specific product offering using R (#rstats), Photon, and data from OpenStreetMaps. In the picture above, you see Benoit Decorte and Pieter-Jan Geens during their final presentation at ENGIE. Special thanks go to Ir. Mathias Syx for his support to the team. The project for Lapperre Hearing Systems was on renewal analytics. Congratulations to Jacob Benoot and Han-Thijs De Senerpont Domis, and to Matthijs Meire for his great support. Special thanks go to Dirk Schaele and many Lapperre contacts for their great support from the company side. See pictures below.
This year’s SMS-Timing MScMA student project was on Karting customer acquisition and loyalty modeling. The students had the unique opportunity to visit their USA HQ in Pennsylvania, to do a customer visit to Denver, CO (USA) and to present their project at SMS-Timings' customer event at the Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles, CA (USA). From left to right in the picture below: Jelle Grammens, Linh Nguyen, and Guillaume Bausier. Special thanks go to Matthijs Meire for coaching this team.
The MScMA project for Total was on the topic of sensor/IoT analytics. Congratulations to the three students (Matthias Baetens, Yoni Geerinck, Stijn Neirinckx) and to Bram Steurtewagen for his great support as well as to the huge support team from Total. See pictures below.
Finally, we had two student teams working on projects for Wolters Kluwer. You'll find some pictures of both the internal and external presentation of the Wolters Kluwer project below. Special thanks go to the Ha Tran (MScMA graduate of last year who now works for WK, and who was our main contact person), Derlin Mputu Kinsa (corporate strategy at WK), the 'Master of Science in Marketing Analysis' students, and Steven Hoornaert for his great support. Pictures were taken at WK HQ in Mechelen as well as at UGent.
